Metal
Staircases
High-end architectural metalwork:
We fabricate bespoke metal staircases for a variety of uses: internal, external, residential and commercial. From one-off elegant residential staircases and robust access platforms, to higher quantities of balconies, handrails and balustrades. Our work is a critical blend of form and function to meet aesthetic, structural and safety requirements, such as compliance with EN1090-2.
We work from our customers’ ideas and designs, adding our considerable experience and knowledge to help them address and meet a variety of issues and targets: performance, installation, cost and deadlines.
We offer our customers bespoke solutions that work first time, saving them money and frustration in the long run.
Staircases, handrails, balustrades and balconies
Staircases, handrails, balustrades and balconies – we fabricate and fit them all, either separately or combined as part of bigger projects. At the heart of every Alroys job lies our start-to-finish holistic and high quality approach.
Our work is often regarded as architectural metalwork. We liaise closely with architects and design teams to achieve their vision without compromising structural integrity or safety. This means reviewing materials and fixings, and often recommending changes to the detail of a design. We also solve site challenges, from working in very tight spaces to accommodating sudden changes to our schedule at the installation stage.

Metal handrails
We often get asked to fabricate safety barriers with the handrail as a visual feature. Handrails can be galvanised, painted or brushed stainless steel, depending on location and the cosmetic requirement. We also work with tough, dense and durable wood, such as teak or African Iroko. In these cases, the spigot and fitting will be more discrete while complying with safety standards such as EN1090-2.
Metal and glass balustrades
If you’re working on a project that involves metal or glass balustrades, you’ll benefit greatly from our experience in this area. One minute we can be working on 600+ metres of elegant railings round private terraces, or, we get a brief to create glass roof terrace balustrades for a high end hotel. These are architecturally pleasing frameless glass screens, clear for that uninterrupted view, frosted for privacy. If the project involves raising the screens to a finished floor level, we may recommend extra structural considerations such as steel spigots, on which the screen posts are fixed.
Metal staircases and access platforms
Engineers need safe access to perform routine and emergency maintenance to air con units, cooling towers, fume cupboard airflow, etc. Typically these access platforms are external structures so we have to plan in extra safety and durability elements: galvanised steel handrails, balustrades and staircases with Jacob ladders, safety hoops and self closing gates, and designated zones onto which harnesses can be clipped. Often, the brief will have restrictions such as limited installation space, or having to find an alternative to bolting the platform to the roof of the building.

Often, the brief will have restrictions such as limited installation space, or having to find an alternative to bolting the platform to the roof of the building.
Custom metal staircase projects
We’re renowned for understanding what a customer is trying to achieve across all our fabrication and component work. Even the most straightforward job will get the ‘Alroys’ bespoke treatment’ whether it’s recommending a different material or project managing a difficult installation. This is particularly true where staircases, handrails and balustrade projects are concerned.
In some cases we’re the first port of call for difficult jobs because project managers know we’ll work through a challenge. The need to fabricate and install a staircase in a tight spot, for example. One such project involved a 2.5 metre staircase (16 steps), wedged between a wall and a load of services. We made the staircase in sections and used a service lift, together with an SLA Genie, to ferry parts to the site.

Structual safety of staircases and balconies
Staircases, handrails, balustrades, and balconies are naturally subject to considerable safety regulations as follows:
- EN1090-2: EN1090 is a set of European standards designed to control the fabrication and assembly of steel and aluminium structures. Compliance with this European standard means we’ve taken the necessary measures to protect people from potential harm caused by a structure.
- CE Marking: this comes under EN1090-1: conformity assessment for structural components. ‘CE’ is the manufacturer’s declaration that the product meets the requirements of the applicable European directives. Structural components are defined as those “to be used as load-bearing parts of works designed to provide mechanical resistance and stability to the works and/or fire resistance, including aspects of durability and serviceability which can be used directly as delivered or can be incorporated into a construction work”.
We check the height and weight of our materials such as glass, wood, and metal. Our calculations consider any pressure, caused by the wind (wind load), on the balustrades and balconies we install on high-rise apartments and offices. Then there are design vs structural considerations to balance, such as fabricating and installing minimalist and ‘no fixing’ handrails and balconies.
Fabrication project management
The way we approach projects guarantees a well-thought out plan for all our customers, whatever their role: project managers juggling multiple jobs, procurement managers costing out very different jobs or engineers working on challenging construction projects.
Working with other contractors means accommodating their timescales and being agile enough to alter our plans and schedule if necessary. Sometimes an earlier stage of ground works will impact on how we install and fix an external handrail and balustrade. Consequently customers trust our project management skills as well as our technical ability.
Ultimately, it’s all about communication and collaboration, ensuring that every project is executed with precision and efficiency.
Whether it’s an elegant staircase, a contemporary balcony, or a safety-focused railing, we’re here to turn your vision into a metal masterpiece.
Alroys Sheet Metal Services
Prototyping
Take control of the unknown by testing first with a prototype. We give you the ability to fully test a design concept, iron out unwanted flaws at the earliest stage and create a working model, approved by your project team.
CNC Punching
By utilising the combination of 3D modelling, CAD/CAM software and Trumpf technology, Alroys is able to offer a complete solution to all your requirements, no matter how unique.
CNC Bending (or Forming)
With advances in technology, CNC (computer numerically controlled) bending technology now gives you the ability to produce almost any component design, saving time and money along the way.
Sheet Metal Welding
This manufacturing process fuses metals together using extremely high temperatures. During cooling, the joints harden, creating permanent structures.
Sheet Metal Assembly
Prior to installation, the assembly stage is the realisation of your project. We take each component part and, in our manufacturing facility, we assemble them, testing each for fit and quality.
